Woodcroft College Administration Building
Background
Woodcroft College was founded in 1989 as an R-12 facility, which in its years of rapid expansion had relied on transportable buildings to house classrooms and administrative facilities. Due to its continuous growth, the college engaged Kennett Builders to construct a new Administration Building for the school. The goal was to transform the transportable character of the site to one of permanence, providing a face for the local community.
Challenges
- The building was on a sloping site
- Students needed to be able to access the second floor academic offices
- Access to natural light and ventilation and the need for cellular rather than open plan offices left the liner layout with a double locked corridor
- Work had to be completed with minimal disruption to students and teachers and within a tight timeframe
Outcomes
- The project was completed successfully and included junior school office and staffroom, academic leadership offices, finance and administration, uniform shop, meeting rooms, gallery, and archive rooms
- The building responded to a sloping site with a split-level ground floor, separating the junior and senior school
- Roof level skylights provided illumination to corridors, creating a bright modern feel for the College while also reducing the energy demand for the building
- Air conditioning was zoned with individual office controls and automatic cut-off switches to prevent energy wastage
- The project was completed under budget and on time
