Background

This grandstand upgrade has been designed to meet AFL Preferred Facilities Guideline requirements for State League competitions and will promote the ongoing growth of Australian Rules football, including local womens football.

Project Detail

– Demolition of existing and construction of new canteen

– Refurbishment of existing McKay Stand amenities, comprising new shower and toilet facilities to the home and away changerooms and upgrade and extension of umpire changeroom facilities

– Refurbishment and extension of existing Jack Oatey Stand, including new facility underneath the existing grandstand, new SANFL Sturt Footbal Club changerooms, therapy rooms, warm-up area, ice baths, gym, member viewing room/function room, installation of a lift and extension and upgrade of the media deck

Construction Detail

– Precast and metal-clad facades

– Install of new lift to Jack Oatey Stand

– Installation of new change rooms and warm-up areas to Jack Oatey Stand

– New media deck

– Refurbishment and updating of existing McKay Stand change rooms

Challenges

– Working in stages to accommodate football season

– Making sure facility is avaliable for SANFL use during construction

– Existing structure with unknown live/decomissioned services which had to be traced back to its origin to ensure safety

– Close proximity to public access

– Working within council-planned works and maintaining access for all users
