Background
Total Tools in Lonsdale was previously situated directly across the road from the new building and they had identified that they’d outgrown there existing facility and were looking to expand into a bigger building. Kennett’s scope was to construct a new warehouse / retail facility to accommodate their requirements and to align with Total Tools visual identity requirements which are set nationwide.
Construction Detail
– Retaining walls surrounding entire site
– Precast concrete construction for external walls
– External concrete paving for carpark
– Internal high specification finished concrete to the internal showroom
– 2-story office / administration area
Challenges
– The site is based on the lowest block of land on the street, and as such, this involved significant retaining wall structures to be installed prior to the build
– The existing neighbouring buildings retaining walls sat higher than the finished floor level of the new build and required underpinning
– All stormwater run-off from the street made its way to this site and building during winter caused significant challenges with run-off management
Outcomes
– Project was successfully delivered defects-free
– Delivered on time for Christmas opening
