Seymour College Hall

Background

Seymour College needed to redevelop and expand the ageing facilities that housed  its Drama and Music Department. The new Performing Arts Centre had to blur the lines between old and new buildings and include extensive landscaping.

Challenges

  • Stage facilities needed to be doubled
  • Performance spaces required acoustic engineering
  • Seating needed to be retractable
  • There needed to be a connection between old and new spaces, and inside and outside areas
  • Chosen materials needed to withstand the rigors of the music and drama departments

Outcomes

  • Stage facilities were doubled
  • We were discerning in our choice of hardwearing, sustainable materials to ensure the facility withstands the ravages of time
  • Our build included specialist choir, orchestra, band and individual practice and recording studios
  • We acoustically engineered performance and practice spaces
  • The space is versatile with retractable seating for 300
  • Inclusion of a17-person lift
  • We interfaced contrasting materials within a co-ordinated and considered built environment
  • We delivered 2,280m2 of new landscaping over 5 levels
