Playford Nursing Home

Background

Playford Nursing Home, Davoren Park, owned by Baptist Care SA, were embarking on an expansion of its existing 40 bed nursing home. An additional 66 bedrooms and ensuites, in-ground water tanks for irrigation and discharge to stormwater, a new chapel, café, landscaping and service road were needed.

Challenges

  • Work had to be completed in an occupied site
  • Design had to be certified by the Federal Department for Health
  • All groundwater had to be stored on site during the construction process
  • Landscaping was detailed after construction of the buildings
  • Materials for landscaping had to be brought into confined spaces after all building work was completed

Outcomes

  • We achieved 100% design certification from the Federal Department for Health
  • Our build included three in-ground 40,000 litre detention water tanks for irrigation and two in-ground retention tanks for discharge to the stormwater system.
  • We completed the tank installation first then the site was prepared so all groundwater during the construction process was stored on site
  • All landscaping materials were lifted in by crane following completion of the construction works
  • We built a new chapel and café for residents to enjoy, a service road surrounding the site and new administration and staff areas
