Background
The upgrade at Mount Gambier TAFE has been part of a broader roll-out of upgrades within TAFE SA statewide. With the number of TAFE students within the South East, University SA and Flinders within the region, there was a need to upgrade the multi-use building to incorporate new and updated student, teacher and general public facilities.
Project Detail/s
The project is a multi-level refurbishment of the main 25-year-old, 2-story building and we were engaged to complete the following areas:
– Hair and beauty
– Library/community
– GLA rooms
– Kitchen and playgroup
– Computer GLAs
– Aged care / nursing
– Quiet spaces
– Faculty facilities
Construction Detail/s
– Demolition of internal shell
– New services incorporated into the existing building, with a large mechanical focus
– Internal fitout works incorporating all trade facets
– Structural steel / concrete works incorporated into existing building
– Plant room works
Challenges
– Short Time frame
– Working with an existing building with Major Leaks
– Existing services linked to an outdated BMS System
– Working on a staged project while the Facility was still in operation
Outcomes
Overall, the project outcomes were very positive, with the following key items identified:
– Project completed to high quality standard
– Client very happy with the final finish
– Additional issues with the existing building identified and rectified, meaning less maintenance costs into the future
