Background

Expansion of the existing occupied Helping Hand Parafield Gardens Nursing Home, increasing the bed numbers to 93 from the previous 86.

Project Detail/s

First stage is to provide an additional 5 bedrooms to the facility which allowed the facility to maintain bed numbers throughout the remainder of the project. Project comprised of 8 stages over a 20 month period.

Construction Detail/s

– Stage 1 new build brick veneer building within an existing courtyard.

– Stages 2-8 refurbishment of existing rooms.

Challenges

– The first stage of works was to build a new wing within the existing facility, site access to build this stage was a major challenge.

– While renovating 7-9 rooms at a time, the balance of the facility is required to be left completely operational and fully occupied. This involved working very closely with the operational staff at the facility to allow this to occur with minial impact on the residents and operations.

Outcomes

Working with the client allowed more rooms to be completed during the final 4 stages, enabling Kennett to complete works 8 weeks prior to the initial programmed completion date.
