Background
For over 30 years there were community discussions about an Aquatic Centre on the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula. In 2007, a joint venture between Alexandrina Council and the City of Victor Harbor was initiated to investigate a site, funding and construction opportunities.
Challenges
- Ground water to 1500mm below existing ground level
- Co-ordination during the design and construction of sewer, power and NBN services non-existent during project commencement
- Site access was restricted during construction of a new road around the site
- All excavation works carried out under the supervision of the Ngarrindjeri Regional Authority cultural observers
Outcomes
- Facilitated a project coordinated between two council authorities to the satisfaction of all
- Exceeded building air tightness requirements by twice the required outcome
- ready for occupation before required dates allowing full testing, commissioning and staff training with time to spare
