Background

The new Tennis Centre Court Development proposed by Tennis Australia is the next step in its goal to rejuvenate the historic home of tennis in South Australia. The general objectives of the project are to ensure the tennis precinct and heritage of Memorial Drive is retained and provide a world-class, all-weather covered playing platform to enable ITF and WTA events to be hosted in Adelaide, establish year-round training facilities for the National Academy, and deliver a major community space for concerts, community events and other high-profile sports.

Project Detail/s

The proposed Tennis Centre Court Development will see the centre court area covered with a new steel-framed fabric structure that will span the existing court platform area and create a roof structure for the existing North and South stands.

– The existing roofs of both the north and the south stands are to be demolished;

– A new steel-framed fabric-covered roof is to be designed and erected as a freestanding structure, independent of the existing stands;

– The fabric roof will be trafficable and incorporate a roof safety system and access points. The roof drainage system will integrate with the existing stormwater infrastructure, modified as necessary, to meet the new configuration;

– New lighting will be incorporated into the roof structure design which will deliver LED lighting and performance levels that will satisfy high definition television requirements for tennis.
