The project was secured after working with the client to value manage the costs while still providing an acceptable design. Multiple options were presented, ranging from heritage stone walls to metal clad walls designs. Ultimately, the metal clad design was accepted and the project commenced.

Project Detail/s

The $900k project includes a new tourism and events space, new amenties block containing male, female and accessible bathrooms, new cellar door servery area, upgrade to the existing cellar door bar, new entry arbor and a rear verandah area.

Construction Detail/s

– Demolition of the existing amenities block and cellar door bar.

– Construction of new cellar door area consisting of structural steel, in-situ concrete, metal wall and roof cladding, hardwood custom timber doors.

– External paved areas made up of new, salvaged and reclaimed pavers.


– Managing the build while maintaining access for customers to the existing cellar door.

– Discovery of undocumented services feed from the adjacent residence and street to the winery.

– Maintaining the construction programme while capturing design and finish changes made throughout construction.

– Meeting the client’s expectations while also working with the client as they acted as the superintentant, who had limited construction and contractual experience.

– Working with SA Water to construct and connect a new fire main which was not reviewed and approved by SA Water during the design phase, while still being able to handover the project to the client in time for their scheduled Christmas functions.
