Beach Energy

Background

Prominent South Australian oil and gas explorer, Beach Energy, needed more office space for its growing workforce. They needed their northern site demolished to make way for a new building – this became stage one. The success of this project led to stage two – the refurbishment of Beach Energy’s southern office building. This involved demolishing the interior of the building to match the accommodation standards of stage one, and deliver corporate standard, board and executive facilities.

Challenges

  • No structural drawings of the existing buildings were available
  • Asbestos was discovered during the demolition and fit-out of the southern building
  • There were increases in scope and changes to the build
  • Beach Energy’s hierarchical structure had to be considered as did the evolving business environment and growing workforce

Outcomes

  • With both buildings we delivered a state-of-the-art result while respecting the architectural features of the existing southern site and promoting a warm and inviting feel with modern finishes
  • With no building drawings, we undertook a full builder and consultant audit early, saving money and delays from the issues uncovered
  • We quickly arranged a specialist contractor to remove asbestos without impacting the timeline
  • Despite an increase in scope, our exceptional project management skills ensured stage one was delivered five weeks ahead of schedule and on budget, and stage two was on time and on budget
  • We delivered an easily adjustable office design maximising internal space and modifiable private areas, which will see Beach Energy well into the future
