Adrian Brien Hyundai

Background

Adrian Brien Automotive has been providing South Australians with quality automotive products for over 40 years.  Due to tremendous growth in Hyundai, Adrian Brien needed a new showroom while continuing to trade as usual during the redevelopment.

Challenges

  • The dealership had to remain functional, with no constraints on the Service Department’s operations
  • Design had to meet Hyundai’s national brand specifications and maximise the existing space
  • Design standards specified large format white floor tiles, which can result in an uneven effect over a large floor area
  • The site is located on the corner of a busy intersection of major arterial roads
  • Despite research during the planning stage, two unforeseen issues arose during the site excavation: soil contamination and uncontrolled fill

Outcomes

  • We ensured the sales and service functions could continue operating uninterrupted
  • The single storey building mets Hyundai’s dealership design protocol and maximised space, now comfortably accommodating eight to twelve vehicles compared to three
  • Our successful coordination of quality checks resulted in a defect-free floor
  • A purpose-built, pod-like structure showcases Hyundai’s vehicle range and a specially designed lighting system is an eye-catching feature
  • We developed a detailed traffic management plan for safety of the client, employees and the public
  • On discovery of soil contamination and uncontrolled fill, the Environment Protection Authority and an environmental engineer were engaged and we remediated the site successfully
